Our dear friends,
Just as B.J. was about to send his regular April newsletter, we paused on sending it. A few days ago, BJ had a severe pain in his right side and went to the emergency room at NYU Langone Hospital Center, two blocks from our home. A CT scan showed that he has a mass on the bladder which is blocking the ureter. He was immediately given a nephrostomy, a stint into his right kidney to allow it to drain. We have to wait for a 10-day course of antibiotics to clear a serious infection before getting an upcoming biopsy to determine a course of treatment for bladder cancer. Those results will take a few more days to be reported.
We remain in faith and trust in the Lord and are so deeply grateful for the prayers of you our dear friends. Your love, prayers, and friendship mean more than we can adequately express. We know that Christ can heal and give B.J. years ahead to continue sharing the loving message of grace and forgiveness that comes through Jesus.
B.J. is currently at home and we are waiting to learn about his next steps of treatment, most likely chemo to stem the spread elsewhere, and also immunotherapy. Friends have been given wonderful advice about dietary programs to starve cancer, and we are so blessed that New York City has some of the best cancer programs in the country and we are seeking multiple opinions from the most renowned specialists.
B.J. would be encouraged to chat or receive an email with many of you as he is able. But in case that gets too difficult, we ask your understanding if you do not hear a response by email or text.
